  • The Carbone Restaurant is an interior designer Project, located in downtown Manhattan.

The main objective in this project was to create different environments in the same place. The client wanted to have a public area designated for the bar along with another, more private and quiet area for the restaurant. Despite different atmosphere's in both areas, the entire place has a strong 1970's Paris influence.

Maintaining the preexisting structure was obtained through distributing the character of three spaces. One more public space that gave access to the local and two others more private.

To generate the different environments they worked with hard materials (textures), light and ornamentals elements (moldings, panels) with a clear Parisian influence. Creating more intimate space with noble material that covered the entire room and was mostly illuminated by artificial light. While the most public spaces played with cooler colors and the natural light acquired greater influence.

Erika was involved from the early stages of the designing process, drawing plans and developing images in 3D for a comprehensive understanding of the project.

  • In the midst a stunning landscape, the Project is conceived like a semi buried element.

This is a Municipal Funeral Service located in a cut of the Monegros Desert, where the wheat field dominates all of the extension.

From the outside, the building tries not to stand out in the environment, except the two towers which are conceived as landmarks in the landscape.

This tower has become one of the main areas that connect all movements in and out of the building, articulate the entire program of the Funeral Service and maintains visual contact with the environment.

The interior spaces and the landscape design seek to transmit the visitor closeness to the rural and austere character of the surroundings by providing simple generous and silent space where the natural light has a very important role, because it tries to illuminate the most private areas such as vigil rooms.

This is a formally simple project that tries to make the most of the environment.

Erika Biarnes - Architect

Erika Biarnes was born in Barcelona in 1984. She studied architecture in Esarq, UIC, Barcelona, where she obtained her diploma in 2010.

In 2011 she obtained her Master's Degree in Infoarchitecture, 3DMax, Vray and Maxwell Render in FXAnimation Barcelona 3D School in Barcelona, and she continued to expand her knowledge in Zaragoza through a Maxwell Render course, taught by Oscar Monzón (Next Limit) at the Center for Advanced Technologies.

In 2012 she moved to New York to work in Glenandcompany, with whom she is still working from Barcelona in some Project in the department of infography.

My passion for photography provided me a way to observe more personal, emphasizing the space, the Light and the composition.

My practise of architecture is intuitive, built from the sensations provided by the space. I try to find constructive and conceptual responses that are specific to each Project, keeping respectful and coherent dialogue with its surroundings.
